Grindrod Garlic Festival — August — A Taste-filled Day
We’re proud of our agricultural roots and nowhere is that more evident than at our annual celebration of all things garlic, the Grindrod Garlic Festival. It’s a taste-filled day of music, art, food and competition…all to honour the garlic bud!
The alluring aroma of garlic draws you in to a whole series of competitions taking place at the Festival. Challenge yourself to beat the 23-clove record in the annual garlic-eating contest, or just try to beat the clock cleaning and breaking down baskets of garlic heads. Decide which buds should win strangest clove or biggest head, or sign-up for the Iron Chef-style challenge and cook your way to garlic glory on a single camp stove burner, letting the judges decide who’ll earn the championship bragging rights.
Nosh your way through the festival, pull up a seat on the grass to listen to the live local bands performing from the porch of the Grindrod Hall, then check out the artisan tents where potters, jewelry makers and other crafty vendors are happy to showcase their talents. The Garlic Festival is held in August at the Grindrod Park
